The Met Office have issued an AMBER warning for high winds associated with Storm Boelo for an area covering all regions of mainland Scotland, and the Western Isles.
This warning is based on an assessment of a high likelihood of significant impacts. This will be valid from 21:00 on Saturday to 21:00 on Sunday.
This AMBER warning highlights the following potential impacts:
• Flying debris is likely and could lead to injuries or danger to life
• There is a good chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
• Some damage to buildings and trees, such as tiles blown from roofs and large branches or trees blown over, is likely
• Longer journey times and cancellations likely, as road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected
•Some roads and bridges likely to close
• Injuries and danger to life are likely from large waves and beach material being thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and properties
As a result, the Ready Scotland Marketing Campaign will be activated today from 21:00 until 21:00 on Saturday.
The channels used for this Ready Scotland activation will be social media/digital, targeted at the areas covered by the warning. The campaign aims to raise awareness of the forecast period of high winds. It encourages the public to take sensible precautions prior to and during severe weather events and to visit Ready.scot for further information.
The warning (and others) can be viewed on the Met Office website.
